Warehouse Management: viastore systems Offers High Performance Picking System

viastore systems, one of the leading automated material handling and supply chain execution software solutions provider, has developed a new automated storage retrieval system (AS/RS) for high speed picking. Providing up to 40% more efficiency and up to 70% less floor space compared to manual systems

The High Performance Picking System (HPPS) from viastore systems is an intelligent combination of mechanics and software. The HPPS can be integrated into virtually any system design. Through the use of the HPPS, customer orders are picked quickly, efficiently, and ergonomically. This is accomplished for example through the intelligent guidance of the picker and the combined use of efficient warehouse management software and a pick-to-light system.

One distinct competitive advantage is based not only on the fact that the pick faces of the pick-to-light system can be automatically replenished with the required containers, but also that the S/R machine can automatically remove containers and cartons when they are empty, or when there will be no access required for some period of time. Other advantages include the fact that the containers are placed directly in a sloping rack position that allows for a comfortable and highly ergonomic access to the containers during picking, thereby reducing pick cycle times. The HPPS incorporates an S/R machine designed with a carriage that tilts the load-handling device (LHD) to correspond with the slope of the pick channels. The order picker is working based a principle known as "man-to-goods" in a manageable section within the picking area. Through the use of a fully automatic replenishment of parts, the required staging area for material to be picked can be reduced. As many different parts as required are staged in an area as small as possible, and the warehouse management software controls and optimizes the utilization of the system.
