Warehouse Distribution: Pacer's Distribution Arm Expands Capacity, Opens Los Angeles Transload And Distribution Warehouse

Pacer Distribution Services, Inc. (PDS), the warehousing and distribution arm of Pacer International, Inc. announced the opening of a new 52-door transload center in Carson, California to support increased demand for transloading services for international freight shipments moving from the West Coast to inland points.

The facility, located on 5.4 acres, is adjacent to the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach and will be primarily dedicated to transloading services, though it will also provide additional capacity to the company's previously existing warehouse operations that already occupy more than 800,000 square feet. These facilities support transload, cross-dock, and customized freight-distribution services in the Los Angeles area.

"The recent shift in the marketplace caused by some of the largest ocean carriers reducing the number of inland locations they serve presents Pacer with an opportunity," said Kent Prokop, president of PDS. "This additional facility allows us to respond quickly to the rising demand from importers; it allows us to add capacity to transload more international freight into Pacer's more efficient 53-foot domestic containers for inland moves from the West Coast."

David Hoppens, vice president of marketing for Pacer International, said: "This facility speaks to Pacer's overall growth as we continue to address market needs and invest in operational improvements that support our development of new services. This move aligns with our ongoing efforts to increase our integration of logistics services. We will roll out a fully integrated international freight transload service with domestic door-to-door delivery in the near future to further leverage this transload capacity expansion."
