Vehicle Mount Terminal Or Tablet - Which Is Better For Forklift Installations? Part 1: Data Collection

Source: Glacier Computer

We recently sold several Everest E2000s to a new customer who needed to replace the rugged tablets installed on their forklifts. The failing tablets they were replacing had been purchased as a bundle, with a prominent software package installed and promotional pricing that was just “too good to pass up.” While this customer had been attracted to the novelty of a portable tablet, and the “good deal,” they didn't really need that kind of portability. The portable tablets were repeatedly causing unplanned downtime that was severely impacting productivity. The “good deal” tablets had actually rendered the forklifts they were mounted on, useless. Downtime and replacement costs had far exceeded the original “too good to pass up” pricing.

A few months later the same customer purchased additional E2000 terminals. Their previous vendors remaining installed tablets were continuing to fail, and the manufacturer's response time on repairs and technical support was less than satisfactory. Selecting a device with price as the top priority can lead to a TCO (total cost of ownership) that far exceeds any perceived savings on the initial cost of the
rugged tablet.
