Teradata Continues To Retain No. 1 Leadership Position In Data Warehouse Server Evaluation Model By Analyst Firm
Teradata, a division of NCR Corporation, continues to hold the No. 1 position in the data warehousing server space, based on the Gartner Server Evaluation Model (SEM) report just released. The evaluation model assesses data warehouse database management system (DBMS) server performance across multiple dimensions, and Gartner's tool is used by decision makers and influencers across industries that need to develop acquisition strategies for data warehouse DBMS servers. The evaluation document, "Server Evaluation Model Summary: Data Warehouse DBMS Servers, 1H07," examines database servers from all major vendors.1
As Teradata approaches its independence from NCR, it believes the No. 1 ranking serves to underscore the future corporation's recognized leadership in computing hardware as well as software and enterprise-class business intelligence consulting and support. This leadership expertise is expected to further enhance its presence and growth in the months ahead – across a wide range of global industries.
"In our complex, hypercompetitive business, speed is a critical competitive advantage, and provides powerful economic benefits, from real-time decision support to personalized customer interaction, to serving our customers when and where they have a need," said Sam Peterson, senior vice president, technology, for Overstock.com. "We believe the Teradata Warehouse meets those needs."
The Teradata Warehouse platform was recently expanded and is used for analytical intelligence and customer relationship management.
"Innovative use of enterprise information, accessible and actionable in real time, is the most critical competitive advantage for any business," said Randy Lea, vice president, product and services marketing for Teradata. "This begins with the capability to capture and load data in near real time, support multiple users submitting many different types of queries, and even provide immediate access to front-line employees, customers and suppliers. Teradata is the only platform that can support this ‘mix' of workloads while providing mission-critical availability."
In this context, server query performance is one of the key criteria for companies investing in a competitive edge through advanced information technology, and Teradata's leadership in the speed of responses to any question, anywhere, any time is a key value differentiator for the business – and the top-tier companies that use Teradata.
"When Teradata becomes an independent company later this quarter it will be the only business on the planet with a core focus on enterprise data warehousing from platform, to applications, to consulting and support. Think about how rare it is for a company to go public and immediately be one-of-a-kind," Lea said.
