True, the economy isn’t doing well, and many businesses are suffering or at least being cautious about spending money. Most analysts say that this situation most likely won’t change for at least the first half of 2009. However, a down economy doesn’t mean that there’s no hope for companies to do well. Indeed, as some industries suffer, others excel. When spending dries up in one area, opportunities are created in others. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the manufacturing and distribution supply chain. Today’s VARs have the opportunity to showcase the ‘value add’ in value-added reseller by creating solutions that solve business problems and, most importantly, save customers money. One VAR succeeding in the manufacturing vertical is Quest Service Labs. In fact, despite the economy, the VAR expects 25% sales revenue growth in 2009. How? Owners Al and Josh Wilson explain that the key to succeeding in the market is properly identifying common problems and then installing the right solutions to address those problems. While Quest Service Labs focuses on manufacturing and distribution customers, the VAR’s customers are quite varied (from steel to food). Nevertheless, regardless of the products being made, stored, and shipped, the needs are the same — quality packaging and labeling, visibility of inventory, and automation of processes.
