Supply Chain Award: TNT Is Asia's "Best Road Haulier" For The Third Time Running

TNT Express Worldwide, one of the leading provider of global express services, recently announced that it has won the coveted "Best Road Haulier Asia" award for the third time running in the Asian Freight and Supply Chain Awards (AFSCA). As the industry's top accolade for excellence in Asia, the twenty-first AFSCA were presented at an annual gala dinner in Macau, organised by Cargonews Asia.

"This award is recognition of our investment in developing innovative solutions to meet customers' needs in Asia, which is a region of key growth for TNT," said Onno Boots, Regional Managing Director of TNT Southeast Asia. "Having already established the largest door-to-door road and air network in Europe, TNT is already a market leader in this region. We will replicate this success and are focused on strengthening Asia's connectivity, both within the region and to Europe," he added.

The AFSCAs are designed to recognise and honour each winner's leadership as well as consistency in service quality, innovation, relationship management and reliability. The criteria for Asia's "Best Road Haulier" included timely pick-up and delivery of freight, extensive infrastructure to support business needs, effective and user-friendly IT systems and competitiveness of rates.

TNT already has plans to aggressively grow its presence on Asia's roads, primarily through further investments in its Asia Road Network (ARN), which was launched in December 2005. By combining road and air transport modes to offer an end-to-end, integrated express service, TNT's ARN is able to provide its customers with a cost and time effective business solution.

"The success of our road transport service is definitely the key to our win. The award further enhances our reputation which will support our strategy to expand the company's presence in emerging Asian markets," added Onno.

As Asia's first and only integrated road network, the ARN allows for transit times that are two to three times faster than sea freight combined with significantly lowered costs compared to air freight. While it currently spans Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, plans are already underway to include China this year.

The "Best Road Haulier" award is not the only honour TNT has earned recently. The company also announced the addition of SA8000 certification to its international hubs at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Penang and Johor Bahru, as well as the National Operation Centre and headquarters in Petaling Jaya at the end of March. TNT is the second organisation and the sole company in the transportation industry in Malaysia to have obtained the SA8000 accreditation , a certification which demonstrates TNT's commitment to sound business ethics, adherence to local and national laws, and an absolute regard for human rights.
