Siemens Launches Dematic Subsidiary

Dematic Corp., North America's largest supplier of automated materials handling systems and solutions, opened for business under the Dematic name on January 1, 2006 - Dematic is the successor company of the former Distribution and Industry Group of Siemens Logistics and Assembly Systems Inc. As part of a new regional and international organization, Dematic is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Siemens AG.

Although the name is new, the company has been in business for nearly 70 years, building a reputation for innovation and thought leadership in the marketplace. For example, Dematic exceeded its first quarter sales targets (October 1 - December 31 2005) based in large part on burgeoning sales of its innovative package conveyor, C-L100. This conveyor product uses distributed process controls to put intelligence at the point of use making it more flexible and configurable than conventional product. Factory wired, assembled and tested, it's easy to commission and site-validate. "Our customers are excited about the energy savings they get coupled with its robust design and ease of maintenance," said Gregg VandenBosch, Conveyor Product Manager. "Customers want better performance and reduced product life-cycle costs, and that's what C-L100 delivers."

Equally exciting is Dematic's new Flex Sorter. This shoe-slat sorter is the first such machine to eliminate chains and sprockets, offer parallel diverting, and user-friendly integrated controls. "The Flex Sorter is ideal for customers who want to sort 200+ cartons per minute at reduced conveying speeds to reduce noise and extend the product life-cycle costs of their systems," said Frank "Bill" Veit, Dematic Product Manager. "This package sorter is perfect for customers who have high throughput requirements today and even higher needs tomorrow."

Dematic is also introducing its new Logistics IT "Management Suite" to compliment its already well-established "Director Suite" of material flow controls. "Performance Manager is Dematic's web-based portal that lets operators not only view operations, but also manage and optimize system performance," declared Raghunath Thirikodu, Dematic Logistics IT Product Manager. "Performance Manager is bundled with Dematic's own industry experts who work with our customers to improve their distribution operations," explained Tim Wolf, Sales Manager, Customer Services. "We partner with our customers not just to provide a system solution, but to work with them throughout the life-cycle of that system to make sure they get optimum performance from that system – even if their business needs change," said Wolf.

"Dematic Corp. will stay focused on innovation and customer service," said Prashant Ranade, President and CEO, Dematic Corp. "First, we will leverage the extensive experience and technical knowledge of our outstanding employees who have already secured a number one market position in the U.S. Second, through a nationwide network of company-owned direct sales and engineering offices, we will stay close to our customers to quickly and efficiently address their needs."
