Savi Technology Unveils Chemical Chain Of Custody Solution To Improve Stewardship And Security Of Chemicals Transported In The Supply Chain
Savi Technology, a leading provider of RFID supply chain solutions, today announced the general availability of a new kind of solution designed for the chemical industry that provides continuous, real-time information on the location and status of hazardous materials as they are positioned or moved through the extended supply chain. The Savi Chemical Industry Chain of Custody Solution, announced at LogiChem 2005 along with a multi-year contract with one of the world's leading providers of chemical products, dramatically enhances asset and content visibility, stewardship and security. Based on the newly released Savi SmartChain® Asset Management System 4.5 (Savi AMS 4.5), the solution also optimizes the utilization of supply chain assets such as tanks, drums and gas cylinders that transport chemicals from origin to destination.
The Savi Chemical Industry Chain of Custody Solution integrates with all types of Automatic Identification and Data Collection (AIDC) technologies such as bar codes, active and passive Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and GPS satellite location systems. This link with AIDC technologies enables providers of chemical products to achieve continuous visibility of hazardous materials as they are transported through the supply chain. Improved visibility, accountability and control mitigates a number of risks associated with growing concerns about terrorist attacks on the chemical supply chain, tampering, theft, diversion, hijacking, contamination, spills and explosions. The Savi Chemical Chain of Custody Solution augments existing safety, security and risk management procedures by providing another layer of asset and content visibility.
"The Savi Chemical Industry Chain of Custody Solution provides complete visibility of assets and their contents throughout the chemical manufacturer's own supply chain as well as extended visibility across the multiple hand-offs through the extended open loop supply chain involving Suppliers, Distributors, Customers and Service Providers," said Chris Stephenson, Savi's Senior Vice President of Marketing. "This solution allows chemical companies to monitor their shipments as well as verify who currently has possession of hazardous material, so they can rest assured that the intended chain of custody is being maintained and that there's accountability throughout the supply chain."
In a related press release today, Savi Technology announced that the Savi Chemical Chain of Custody Solution is now live at a major chemical company where tens of thousands of metal cylinders used to transport fumigant are being tracked from origin at the production fill facility, through the provider's supply chain network, and upon return to the production facility. The customer also has designated Savi's enterprise-level solution, which is hosted for the chemical company in an ASP environment, as a most effective technology for multiple business units to track a wide range of mobile assets, or shipping vessels, including totes, cylinders, trucks and rail cars.
At the heart of the Chemical Chain of Custody Solution is the Savi Asset Management System (AMS), a full-featured, web-based application that provides asset and content visibility and automated full lifecycle management of supply chain assets, including forecasting and planning, reservation and allocation, asset transfer and repositioning, and physical inventory functions. Additional performance management analytics and key performance indicator (KPIs) reports drive continuous improvements in asset utilization and customer service. The end result is a reduction in capital expenditure, lease, rental and demurrage expenses and reduced operational expenses such as costs associated with expedited shipments.
Savi AMS is one of three software systems provided by Savi Technology. The other two are Consignment Management System, designed to manage shipments for international defense organizations, and Transportation Security System, which provides security management for the global transport of cargo containers. All three systems are designed for integration with AIDC technologies to leverage real-time information solutions from smart supply chain assets.
