RedPrairie Service Oriented Architecture

Source: RedPrairie
Services Oriented Architecture (SOA) is an underlying philosophy and framework for how application suites are developed, and how they communicate with other applications. It is based on a design philosophy that distributes all functionality across granular components that can openly communicate with each other. The advent of Web Services has extended this design to facilitate communications with components external to the application.

To take full advantage of an enterprise's SOA environment, therefore, applications must at their core be based on this open component, service based communications design.

RedPrairie began developing its core architecture and applications under an open component, services oriented approach in 1992, with our first customer production system live in 1996. This has enabled us to enhance our application suite with new open standards technologies like web services as they become available. The result is the only time-tested, customer proven SOA application suite in the Supply Chain Execution (SCE) industry. Employing this underlying services based architecture has enabled our customers to take advantage of the latest technology while protecting their investment in our SCE solutions.
