Northern Plains Commerce Center Operations Agreement Signed By Mallory Alexander International Logistics And Bismarck, North Dakota
An interim agreement for development, operations and management of the new 243-acre Northern Plains Commerce Center has been signed by Mallory Alexander International Logistics (www.mallorygroup.com) and the City of Bismarck, North Dakota.
"Though we provide all these services in one form or another," says Paul Liddell, vice president of warehouse operations for Mallory Alexander, "this is the first time we have been awarded a contract as comprehensive as this one."
Located adjacent to the Bismarck airport, the facility will have intermodal capabilities with rail and highway service, warehousing and transloading facilities. The City of Bismarck is also exploring opportunities for a Foreign Trade Zone and Port of Entry.
Rail carload service will be provided by long-haul carrier Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) via a direct connection with Dakota, Missouri Valley and Western railroad (which serves the Center). Highway shipments have easy access to the facilities from Interstate 94. The Center is located adjacent to airport property and it is expected that airfreight service will be developed.
"Bismarck identified the need for a logistics facility that would attract new investment and jobs. That led to their interest in establishing the Center," says Don Guinter, director of business development, Mallory Alexander. "Our initial discussions with city leaders demonstrated a good fit between our complete domestic and international shipping capabilities and the goals established for the Center."
The interim letter of agreement signed between Mallory Alexander and Bismarck provides for a ramp-up period of up to three years until a long-term (10 year) agreement can be established. "We hope to sign a long-term agreement sooner than that," says Liddell.
Mallory Alexander's role includes management of the entire Center as well as providing warehousing, cross-docking and complete third-party logistics and international freight forwarding for shippers in need of these services.
