Module of Navis SPARCS allows Jebel Ali Terminal-1 to Improve Service Level, while using fewer resources

Zebra Enterprise Solutions (ZES), a division of Zebra Technologies, today announced that the successful implementation of Navis SPARCS PrimeRoute for Tractor Trailers at Jebel Ali Terminal 1 in Dubai contributed to the terminal's reduction of overall fuel usage and carbon emissions by 30 percent.

Operated by leading marine terminal operator DP World, Jebel Ali Terminal 1 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), utilized the PrimeRoute module and achieved a significant elimination of waste. The PrimeRoute module decreased total travel distance of tractors by 30 percent and allowed for a 40 percent improvement in laden versus un-laden trips. Overall productivity improved and enhanced operational monitoring. It has also increased the number of cranes that a single dispatcher can effectively manage. As a result, the terminal has been able to reduce its tractor fleet by 15 percent while improving service levels to its customers.

"At DPW we are completely focused on adding sustainable value to our customers through a firm commitment to operational excellence and innovation, a responsible approach towards the safety and well being of our people, and a genuine concern towards reducing our environmental impact. With the implementation of Prime Route we have been able to achieve these objectives" Said Rashid Ali Al Qahtani, COO of DP World, UAE region.

"Furthermore Prime Route has proved to be a vital tool in our drive to improve both the efficiency and effectiveness of our operations by reducing waste and concentrating our resources on value adding activities" added Pedro Caballero, Director of Terminal Performance & Planning.

PrimeRoute, a module included within the Navis SPARCS and SPARCS N4 terminal operating systems, enables real-time routing, dispatching and monitoring of internal transportation vehicles. By pooling terminal tractors across a wide array of work assignments, fewer tractors are required to do the same amount of work while still maintaining productivity and lowering both capital investments and variable costs such as labor, fuel and maintenance.

"We are pleased that the process improvements achieved by utilizing PrimeRoute have allowed Terminal 1 to eliminate waste, do more with fewer resources and still improve service to their customers," said Bill Walsh, General Manager of Zebra Enterprise Solutions. "The improvements will not only help Terminal 1 in the current economic times, but will also serve as a competitive differentiator in the future."
