Murphy Warehouse Company Wins Exceptional Performance Award From United Sugars

Murphy Warehouse Company, one of the Upper Midwest's largest asset-based logistics companies, has earned an "Exceptional Performance in Service & Quality" award from United Sugars Corporation. This marks the fifth award Murphy has received from the company since 2001.

United Sugars is the second largest marketer of industrial and consumer sugar in the U.S.

Murphy received the honors as part of United Sugars' Seventh Annual Transportation Outside Facilities Conference. In presenting the award, the company noted that Murphy has received the lowest customer complaint ratio compared to all other United Sugars' contracted warehouses.

"We strive for excellence when we serve our customers, and to have that service recognized by United Sugars is the highest compliment we can receive. We are honored to receive this award," said Richard Murphy, president and chief executive officer of Murphy.

"Murphy Warehouse continually provides excellent service to both United Sugars and its customers by focusing on everyday details and providing innovative valued added services," said Raymond Smith, United Sugars facilities and quality systems director.

United Sugars, which sells sugar to both the retail and industrial markets throughout the U.S. has turned to Murphy over the past 20 years to address the company's logistics needs. Today, Murphy provides storage of packaged sugar for industrial and retail customers, acting as a major distribution center for the delivery of sugar to customers throughout the U.S.

In 2004, United Sugars installed equipment to transfer sugar from storage totes into railcars for delivery to liquid sugar melt stations in one of Murphy's facilities, expanding United Sugars' offerings to food producers nationwide. With the ebb and flow of seasonal crop yields, Murphy continually adjusts storage space requirements in its warehouse facilities, with space peaking at 750,000 square feet.

Providing sugar to many different customers means that United Sugars needs to meet multiple product specifications – sometimes to the same customer. Murphy provides customer-specific stenciling and labeling, quality grade specifications and sampling of the product to meet customer requirements.

In addition to this year's award, United Sugars has recognized Murphy with several awards in recent years, including Warehouse of the Year in 2001 and 2004, as well as Recognition of Outstanding Service & Dedication in 2002 and 2003.
