SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) today announced that Medtronic, Inc. (NYSE: MDT) has selected mySAP Business Suite to improve visibility into its global supply chain activities across all businesses. The solution will allow Medtronic to migrate its existing legacy enterprise resource systems onto a single SAP platform, which will provide Medtronic with a single global view of all of its businesses. The announcement was made at the Interlog Medical conference, being held Nov. 11-12 in Palm Springs, Calif., and reflects SAP's ability to provide industry-leading solutions for all aspects of the manufacture of medical equipment and demonstrates that SAP is able to support its customers in the highly regulated healthcare industry.

"Medtronic needs an ERP solution that will give us greater visibility into our supply chain and overall operations," said Jeff Balagna, senior vice president and chief information and quality officer, Medtronic. "SAP was able to demonstrate unrivaled experience in and knowledge of our complex business issues. With mySAP Business Suite, we will be able to continue our current growth curve and better serve our customers."

Medtronic will primarily leverage several key solutions of mySAP Business Suite: mySAP Financials, mySAP Supply Chain Management (mySAP SCM) and mySAP Business Intelligence (mySAP BI). Medtronic will also utilize SAP Advanced Planning & Optimization (SAP APO) and SAP Compliance Management, a component of SAP Global Trade Services (SAP GTS). The solution will provide a foundation for cross-enterprise collaboration and an ability to scale back reliance on third-party and/or custom applications. This standardized approach allows for rapid adoption of new technology for future processes, driving additional long-term business benefits.

"SAP is extremely pleased to include Medtronic in our ever-growing list of healthcare industry customers," said Bill McDermott, CEO and president, SAP America, Inc. "This deal further reinforces SAP's position as the leader in business software solutions for the healthcare industry. With mySAP Business Suite, Medtronic will be able to leverage our industry-specific experience and SAP's market-leading expertise in supply chain management to help them maintain their impressive growth."
