Major Caterpillar Dealer Goes Live With Tecsys' WMS For IBM iSeries In Automated Distribution Operation
TECSYS Inc. (TSX: TCS), an industry-leading supply chain management software company, announced today that Milton CAT, one of North America's largest Caterpillar dealers, has gone live with TECSYS' EliteSeries™ Warehouse Management System for IBM iSeries to manage its highly automated distribution operation.
Milton CAT operates an 80,000-square-foot distribution and service center in Milford, Massachusetts, supporting both customers and 12 of its own branches across the northeastern United States. The warehouse solution Milton CAT had been relying on could no longer support the company's volume of business, so it decided to implement a new solution that would help it improve both internal and external customer service by helping it turn around parts and equipment quickly.
Milton CAT needed a warehouse management system that would run on an iSeries platform and that could integrate easily to its existing ERP, conveyor and put-to-light systems. The company chose EliteSeries Warehouse Management System for IBM iSeries because it met Milton CAT's functionality requirements. The clincher in the choice was site visits to four TECSYS-powered operations, which demonstrated live what the TECSYS solution could do.
"TECSYS was able to show us in concrete terms what we would be able to achieve with EliteSeries, and they followed through," said Rodney Ford, Director of Information Systems at Milton CAT. "We implemented a number of automation systems at the same time, and we needed to know that EliteSeries would interface with them effectively and deliver the functionality to allow them to reach their full potential. After running live on the system for five months, the solution has done just that."
The TECSYS team also customized the solution to handle an automated customer pick-up center, which is now up and running smoothly. Plus TECSYS' integration professionals handled a large part of the systems integration component of the project.
