Intek And Contact Lens Maker CooperVision Bring Warehouse Efficiency Into Focus
Intek Integration Technologies announced today that CooperVision, a division of The Cooper Companies (NYSE: COO) and a global leader in specialty contact lens design, materials and manufacturing, has selected Intek's Warehouse Librarian Warehouse Management and Control System to optimize their Rochester, NY distribution center.
CooperVision's significant growth and steadily increasing SKU count encouraged the search for a new Warehouse Management System (WMS). With 2003 revenues estimated at over $320 Million dollars worldwide, CooperVision's goal was to implement a WMS that could increase productivity, efficiency, and inventory accuracy while reducing overall labor costs. After a detailed search, and with the assistance of Warehouse Management Consultants, CooperVision selected Intek's Warehouse Librarian.
"Intek's system is flexible enough to integrate all of our key activities; Warehouse Librarian spins the carousels, directs voice picking, controls sorting, and manages the shipping process," said Joe Stannard, CooperVision VP of Logistics. "Warehouse Librarian commands all of our operations from one central system that is integrated with our Baan ERP system."
Warehouse Librarian's configurable features will allow CooperVision to improve all aspects of their warehouse operations. Warehouse Librarian will enhance their industry recognized product warranty and customer service by providing later shipment cut-off times and delivering accurate shipments. Cycle counting will be performed on a continual basis. Instead of bringing in the inventory control team on weekends at overtime rates, cycle counts can now be done by employees during normal business hours. Finally, Warehouse Librarian's standard integration with Voxware's VoiceLogistics technology will allow CooperVision to eliminate time-consuming manual activities such as printing out, prioritizing and shuffling paper pick lists. In addition, paperless picking will allow CooperVision to increase warehouse efficiency.
"We are proud to be able to offer CooperVision a solution that has the functionality and flexibility they demand to meet their unique business challenges," said Stan McLean, Intek President/COO. "Our system will allow CooperVision to achieve the extremely high level of order accuracy they require to fulfill their generous product warranty."
