GPS Fleet Management: BDS And Satamatics Collaborate To Enhance Railcar Location And Condition Reporting Using GPS Technology
Bourque Data Systems, Inc. (BDS), the leading rail logistics software provider and Satamatics, a global provider of satellite-based telematics, announced recently the successful network integration between the two companies. Working together, they have accomplished integration of Satamatics' Inmarsat D+ satellite communications network with BDS' RAILTRAC for real-time railcar GPS location and asset monitoring. With several pilot programs underway with large hazardous chemical shippers, Steve Bourque, BDS' Presidents says, "This robust XML data integration will provide our customers with real-time railcar location and asset monitoring data for enhanced security and control".
New RAILTRAC GPS mapping and reporting functions are easy to interpret and will provide a set of robust warning indicators should a shipment fall out of spec. Bourque adds, "With this new monitoring layer, hazardous material shippers can exert control and security to a new level and fulfill upcoming US government compliance regulations for TIH & PIH shipments".
With this integration, Satamatics and BDS will be able to deliver true visibility of hazardous material carrying railcars and better serve the chemical industry. Brian Hester, President and COO of Satamatics Inc, said "Being able to locate a fleet or a single tank car carrying hazardous materials in minutes is an incredible tool in times of crises and is completely within the technical capabilities of both the BDS software and the Satamatics hardware and satellite airtime services. With the equipment smaller than a lunch box, battery life of over five years and real-time polling capabilities on a global basis, this technology has really matured to a point where it's affordable and completely warranted on all hazmat shipments".
