Fleet Management: Xora's Affordable Route Optimization Offers Maximum Fleet Efficiency At A Minimal Cost

Xora, a leading provider of location-based mobile resource management solutions, recently announced the general availability of Xroutes, a route optimization solution for transportation companies and businesses with mobile service organizations.

Xroutes is a web-based application that takes many stops, across multiple depots, and quickly calculates optimal routes based on variables such as the number of vehicles a company operates and specific arrival time windows. These routes are calculated using a National Science Foundation award-winning routing algorithm, which Xora acquired through its recent completed purchase of Scalable OR Solutions, a leading developer of commercial-grade route optimization software.

Each optimized route is then dispatched to a driver or service technician's mobile phone running Xora GPS TimeTrack. The system uses GPS information and job data collected wirelessly from the mobile phones to provide dispatchers and managers with location and job status information, giving them a real-time view of field-based activity and route performance throughout the day. Xroutes costs $24.99 per phone per month, a fraction of the cost of other commercial route optimization packages.

"Manual and zone-based route dispatching is inefficient, costing companies between 10 and 30 percent excess operating overhead when diesel fuel prices top $3.25 per gallon," said Craig McDonald, senior director of route optimization at Xora. "Xroutes is the only fully integrated GPS phone-based system that is able to minimize miles traveled while taking into consideration constraints such as time windows, capacity constraints, maximum drive-time allowed, route times and customer delivery requirements."

"Xora has worked hard to understand our unique needs and deploy a solution that can help us achieve our goals," said Chris Brumlow, General Manager at Pelican Transportation, an Intermodal Carrier in the Southeast. "We are using Xroutes to help us deliver on our promises to customers. It's one of our key tools."

Xora mobile resource management applications enable businesses to track and manage field staff via GPS-enabled mobile phones. Mobile workers use the phones to record time sheet and job status information, including when they begin and end shifts and jobs or deliveries. Office staff can access the information in real-time through web-based maps and reports. Companies use the data to ensure that workers are paid accurately and customers billed appropriately. The enhanced business intelligence leads to increased productivity, lower costs and superior customer service. Xora was recognized for excellence in mobile workforce management by research firm Frost & Sullivan in 2007.
