CEVA Logistics Launched A New Operation For John Deere In Brazil

CEVA Logistics, a leading global supply chain management company, has launched a new operation for John Deere, an agricultural machinery manufacturer. The partnership between CEVA and John Deere started in April 2003, and included two distribution centers, one in Catalão (State of Goias, Middle West of Brazil), and another in Horizontina (State of Rio Grande do Sul, South of Brazil). Both operations will be consolidated in Campinas (State of Sao Paulo).

Based on the need for optimization of logistic processes foreseen by John Deere, CEVA actively participated in planning the consolidation, which will be concluded in the first quarter of 2009. The combined distribution center will grant more efficiency in the use of resources and movement of replacement parts.

The consolidation started by adopting the processes described in the Lean philosophy, which prescribes efficiency, intelligence and elimination of waste, in alignment with CEVA's global directives of operational excellence and continuous improvement. For the transport activities for the new site, CEVA will use SIT (Transport Information Service), telephone service to control the network of operators and the CEVA Orion system, used to control emission information and CTRC (Knowledge of Road Transportation of Loads) through the Web.

"For CEVA, the expansion of the 5 year partnership with John Deere is a significant achievement", says Giuseppe De Vincenzo, Managing Director for CEVA. "The distribution center in Campinas is strategically positioned next to the Viracopos airport and next to the Santos Dumont highway, and will also use a transportation network in which we have expertise, optimizing the processes of our customer".

"With this new investment, John Deere renews its commitment towards ensuring the best post-sale service to its customers, so they can reap the best results from the state-of-the-art technology offered by our equipment", says Aaron Wetzel, President of John Deere Brazil.
