Celgene Selects SupplyScape's Product Security Software To Strengthen Patient Safety Initiatives
SupplyScape Corporation, the leading provider of software to secure the safety and value of the pharmaceutical supply chain, recently announced that Celgene Corporation has implemented SupplyScape's Product Security solution to protect its drug supply chain. In addition to the security benefits provided by SupplyScape's electronic pedigree and network product authentication, Celgene will use the SupplyScape solution to optimize its supply chain operations and meet compliance requirements.
Celgene, the seventh largest biotechnology company as measured by sales volume, is a global biopharmaceutical company engaged primarily in the discovery, development and commercialization of novel therapies for the treatment of cancer and inflammatory diseases. To strengthen product security, Celgene is using electronic pedigrees for all of its products. The company has also begun serializing products at the unit level with RFID tags and will make SupplyScape's EPC network product authentication service available to its customers for all products entering the distribution channel in early 2008.
"At Celgene, patient safety is our number one priority," said Peter Blok, vice president, global supply chain. "We realize that counterfeit drug products in the supply chain threaten the safety of all of us. SupplyScape's Product Security solution is an important part of our continuing commitment to assure that our patients are getting genuine Celgene drug products. In addition to patient safety, Celgene is applying the Product Security solution, along with RFID, as part of our tool kit for managing inventory levels and cycle times. Combined, these tools increase the visibility of product throughout our supply chain."
Headquartered in Summit, New Jersey, Celgene is recognized as an industry pioneer in restricted-distribution programs that help ensure patients access Celgene products appropriately. Celgene is applying this same rigorous philosophy to its supply distribution network. The SupplyScape solution provides Celgene with a core track and trace infrastructure that significantly reduces the risk of diversion and counterfeiting, complies with regulatory requirements and makes pedigree and authentication information available for reducing operational costs and improving supply chain visibility.
"Increasingly, SupplyScape's Product Security solution is serving as the backbone for drug supply chain security. Celgene will benefit enormously from SupplyScape's ability to ensure the transactional and product integrity of its drugs," said Greg Cathcart, senior vice president of sales, marketing and services at SupplyScape. "We look forward to a longstanding relationship with Celgene and helping them to secure and streamline the delivery of novel drug therapies that will make a significant difference in the lives of their patients."
