Astrazeneca Selects Axway's Synchrony Supply Chain Integrity Suite To Safeguard Patients
Axway, Inc. recently announced that AstraZeneca has selected its Synchrony Supply Chain Integrity Suite to enable track and trace as part of the Product Safety Data Management (PSDM) initiative, which is part of the company's previously announced program to protect patients from counterfeit medicines. With Axway's assistance, AstraZeneca's PSDM initiative is the first in the industry that implements a global infrastructure and strategy across multiple packaging lines and production sites to safeguard patients. The initial scope of PSDM includes 25 packaging lines and 12 worldwide sites, not including the US sites or supply chain.
"Our core responsibility as an international healthcare business is to achieve high standards, not only for our company, but for the industry as a whole," said David Teale, AstraZeneca's product security director. "We chose to partner with Axway for our PSDM initiative because of the company's deep technical expertise and breadth of supply chain integrity capabilities. We're eager to continue our strategic relationship with Axway to safeguard patients and protect our products around the world."
Synchrony Supply Chain Integrity Suite is built on a collaborative infrastructure. This platform approach provides AstraZeneca with scalable, agile and adaptive patient safety solutions, such as product authentication and recall management. As PSDM matures, customizable business rules allow AstraZeneca to adapt quickly to changes in regulations, business practices or partner requirements, and potentially expand into US sites and supply chain.
By collecting and making sense of event data, Synchrony Supply Chain Integrity Suite creates immediate, actionable intelligence about AstraZeneca's supply chain performance. This is accomplished by storing supply chain events and demand details from within and outside the enterprise in a common repository for serialized item data. Informatics look for patterns in this serialization data to highlight potential patient safety and supply chain integrity risks through scorecards, alerts and reports.
"Being a core technology of the industry's first large-scale supply chain integrity implementation is a true validation of our market leadership," said Paul Fowler, Axway's vice president of healthcare strategies. "We're excited to extend our relationship with AstraZeneca. We're confident that our rich history in healthcare technology will advance AstraZeneca's ability to safeguard patients and secure its supply chain from counterfeit drugs on a global level," adds Ron Gabrisko, Axway's vice president of healthcare sales.
Axway's Synchrony Supply Chain Integrity Suite improves operational efficiency through supply chain visibility, assures data integrity in supply chain transactions, enables product authentication, provides secure, role-based access, and can be integrated with existing enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
