Russian Retail Giant Sportmaster Takes Supply Chain Collaboration To A New Level With Manhattan Associates

Global supply chain optimisation provider Manhattan Associates, Inc. recently announced that Sportmaster, Russia's leading sports goods retailer and wholesaler, has selected Manhattan's collaborative commerce solution, Extended Enterprise Management, to improve connectivity with its upstream suppliers and to raise visibility of inventory and data across its entire supply chain.

Sportmaster's supply chain has become increasingly complex over recent years with between 70 percent and 80 percent of the goods it now sells originating from suppliers in Asia. Its supply chain is structured with a 70,000 square meter distribution centre (DC) in Moscow and several regional warehouses in Russia. To effectively serve Sportmaster's 225 stores and 360 franchise stores throughout Russia, the company wanted to gain better visibility of inbound shipments from Asia, improve productivity in the receiving process, accelerate the flow of goods at the various distribution hubs and make better use of the space available at its Moscow DC.

"To support the growth we're anticipating for the company over the next few years, we needed a proven, strategic solution to improve our supply chain operation in a number of areas," said Artem Skorikov, logistics director at Sportmaster. "Because the solution can be accessed from a web browser anywhere in the world, suppliers can share data with us simply by having access to a computer terminal and an internet connection."

Artem Skorikov continued, "The collaborative approach enabled by Manhattan's Extended Enterprise Management solution will enable us to improve the speed at which goods are moving at specific points in the supply chain. Improved visibility on where goods are will enable us to introduce flow-through techniques at our distribution hubs and allow us to better plan our Moscow DC activities based on what goods are arriving when. With the productivity improvements we're expecting, we're also anticipating we'll be able to create a significant space utilisation improvement at the DC."

Steve Smith, senior vice president, EMEA, at Manhattan Associates, commented, "In this new era of business dynamics we're entering where supply chains, not companies, will fight for supremacy, effective collaboration between a supply chain's trading partners will increasingly hold the key to future supply chain responsiveness and the ability to create sustainable competitive advantage. With our Extended Enterprise Management solution, Sportmaster can be confident it will be able to instigate the processes and solution components it needs to improve the way it interacts with and exchanges information with its trading partners and the manner in which it operates and competes as an extended and integrated supply chain."
