First APEC Green Supply Chain Center To Settle In Tianjin

Practices on Green Development in Asia-Pacific Region

Beijing /PRNewswire/ - "We positively value the APEC High-level Roundtable on Green Development and its declaration, and agree to establish the APEC Cooperation Network on Green Supply Chain. We endorse the establishment of the first pilot center of APEC Cooperation Network on Green Supply Chain in Tianjin, China, and encourage other economics to establish the pilot centers and advance related work actively." With the words hurled at Leaders' Meeting that ended on November 11, 2014, Chinahas become not only a part but also a leader of green development in the Asian-Pacific region.

"The Initiative on APEC Green Supply Chain Cooperation Network involves websites, application researches, pilot demonstration centres and information exchange platforms and other professional matters. This is another milestone for Tianjin since the Yujiapu Financial District was appointed as the first APEC Low-Carbon Demonstration Town (LCDT)," says the government organization that drafts the relevant APEC announcements.

Tianjin has been on its green supply-chain path since early last year. In 2013, the Tianjin Municipal Government started its green supply-chain pilot centre under the support of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of People's Republic of China, the China Council for the International Co-operation on Environment and Development (CCICED), the ASEAN Environmental Protection Centre and the Environmental Defense Fund. In reference to Yujiapu's experience as a low carbon demonstration town, Tianjin has done remarkable things such as setting up the Tianjin Low-Carbon Development and Green Supply Chain Management Service Centre; providing green supply chain services and organizing the first green material purchasing for district construction.

The goal of green supply chain is to minimize environment pollution and maximize resource savings. Apart from the connectivity among different green supply chains as well as the diversification of green supply chain solutions and management instruments, the APEC green supply chain cooperation network can also contribute to international trade balancing, the communication between the public and the private sector, and the cross-border flow of services and commodities.

Founding the first Green Supply Chain Demonstration Centre in Tianjin showcases APEC's recognition of China's efforts in the field. The centre will facilitate experience exchange and policy exploration, and is expected to be a highlight of the Asian-Pacific free trade zone. By far, the preparation plan for the centre proposed to be built in Yujiapu is on the discuss table of state-level government organizations.

Low carbon has been a part of Yujiapu's DNA since it still was in the cradle. In the first half of 2014, Yujiapu raised its 6-dimensional low-carbon index system covering transportation, economic development and city operation, which was later approved in the 47th APEC Energy Working Team Meeting and promoted to other places. With the accumulation effect of low carbon operations, Yujiapu has attracted environment-friendly companies such as China Financial Leasing Co., Ltd., Galaxy Dahua Low Carbon Industrial Fund Management Co., Ltd., Low Carbon Research Institute of Tianjin Innovative Financed Investment Co., Ltd. and GDF Suez Energy Services.
