Case Study: Dolphins Reduce Defect Rating By 99% For Toyoda Gosei
In the automotive industry manufacturers and suppliers are given a parts per million defects rating by their customers based on the number of errors found in the parts supplied or the quantities shipped. Suppliers with high defects ratings run the risk of losing their customers and with a rating of 5000 Toyoda Gosei Fluid Systems (TGFS) turned to Codeway for help. Codeway provided Dolphin wireless handheld terminals from Hand Held Products, enabling TGFS to confirm labelling and storage accuracy throughout its production and warehousing facilities; the improvement has been dramatic.
Part of the Gosei Group, headquartered in Japan, Toyoda Gosei Fluid Systems is a first tier manufacturer and distributor of plastic parts for the automotive supply chain. The manufacturing plant in Market Harborough, UK, has over 200 employees, with 130 of those based on the shop floor operating the 6 main production cells and in its storage and distribution hub. TGFS supplies customers including Land Rover, Daimler Chrysler, Ford & Toyota.
Henry Nichols, IT Manager for TGFS UK, explains "The set up here is unlike any other you are likely to find in a manufacturing and distribution plant. We are customer focused, but process orientated – and we have set up a system of "production cells" based on product criteria such as product size and material, to maximise efficiencies in production and the use of floorspace."
