World Wide Technology Launches IPv6 Resource Microsite

World Wide Technology, Inc. one of the leading systems integrator that provides innovative technology and supply chain solutions, announced recently that is has launched www.ipv6resource.com, a microsite for organizations and individuals seeking information about the new Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6). The site provides baseline information about IPv6 and its benefits, as well as information about the Internet protocol it is replacing, IPv4, and the steps that forward-looking organizations can take for a smooth transition from the old protocol to the new one.

IPv6 is replacing IPv4, the dominant Internet protocol used today. In addition to security concerns and architecture inflexibility, IPv4 is being replaced primarily because the number of IP addresses that can be issued by IPv4 is limited and may be exhausted by as soon as May 2011. With the introduction of IPv6, every device on the globe will be required to convert to the new protocol over time in order to maintain Internet connectivity.

As with any global transition to a new protocol, questions abound as to whether the transition to IPv6 is imperative, when it will occur, why the new Internet protocol is better, and what steps organizations should take to ensure a smooth transition. As a service to the IT community, WWT has posted answers to these and other questions on an informational microsite www.ipv6resource.com in the hopes of presenting, in one unified location, a collection of authoritative information about IPv6. The site will be updated regularly and currently hosts an IPv6 FAQ, white paper, blog and an on demand Webcast on transition in the federal government.

"The transition from IPv4 to IPv6 is inevitable, and many large enterprises, such as the Federal government, have already been mandated to migrate," said Bob Olwig, vice president of business strategy for WWT. "World Wide Technology is uniquely positioned to offer information about important issues and trends affecting IT professionals. Our engineers are well trained and the relationships we have with leading technology providers like Cisco, Sun and HP keeps us on the frontlines of the ever changing IT industry. We hope the IPv6 resource site will be beneficial and provide the baseline knowledge enterprises of any size need to plan, implement and support IPv6."
