Epicor Integrates Document Management With Enterprise Software Suite
(Irvine, CA) – In April, enterprise software provider Epicor Enterprise Solutions and its channel partners were authorized to distribute Altec's (Laguna Hills, CA) doc-link integrated document management solution. This agreement cements a long-standing relationship with a formal compensation plan, as Epicor and its partners have been referring and co-marketing doc-link for more than three years. According to Mark Duffell, executive vice president at Epicor, several mid-market companies have already integrated doc-link with Epicor Enterprise.
"The emergence of Sarbanes-Oxley has created a need for greater accountability in the handling, recording, and auditing of business transactions," explains Duffell. "Integrating enterprise applications with document management technologies provides easy access to all documents and approvals related to specific transactions, thereby making compliance much easier to achieve."
To illustrate the levels of integration that several customers have implemented, Brandt Morrell, president and COO of Altec, and several members of his team described both a procure-to-pay and an order-to-cash business process. In both scenarios, incoming documents (in all types of formats) are captured, indexed, and routed to invoke appropriate Epicor transactions. On the outbound side, Epicor print files generate indexed electronic documents, such as purchase orders and invoices, and route them to trading partners. Different formats and delivery methods can be specified for different recipients. Documents in the doc-link repository can be retrieved via appropriate Epicor transaction and database records. This provides an audit trail that can be easily traced.
Altec has relationships with other mid-market enterprise solution providers including Microsoft Business Solutions, SAP Business One, and Best Software. These relationships suggest that small and medium businesses are increasingly adopting document-enabled enterprise solutions. It will be interesting to watch this convergence unfold, as some enterprise vendors offer document management as another module in the suite, while others form alliances – as in the case of Epicor and Altec.
